Camp Zenith, a program of Children’s Hospital Colorado and hosted by Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC), is a four-day overnight camp for youth, ages 8-18, who have sustained an injury to the brain. Campers will be involved in a variety of activities throughout the week, which may include hiking, team/friendship building exercises, canoeing, fishing, climbing, high-ropes course, crafts, and much more! In the evenings, campers participate in activities such as taking in the music of the Breckenridge Music Festival orchestra, movie nights, group games and a modified campfire. BOEC wilderness educators take the lead in planning the menu, setting up gear and equipment, and facilitating all activities with support from the staff from the Rehabilitation Department at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Together, all staff members work together to provide the needed structure and stability for guaranteed fun and success of all campers! Values of acceptance, honesty, self-esteem and teamwork are encouraged throughout all camp experiences. Campers are guided in setting their own goals and achieving them to the best of their abilities. Specialized staff from Children’s Hospital Colorado (occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists or recreational therapists) support the campers by helping children as needed to promote fun and adventure in the outdoors!
