Charlie Fatone
Summer Intern
Hi all! My name is Charlie Fatone and I am from Exton, Pennsylvania (45 minutes west of
Philadelphia). I attended Slippery Rock University to complete my undergraduate degree in
Exercise Science! I also got to complete a minor while at the university called Adapted Physical
Activity. I wanted to become a BOEC intern because I saw the amount of good that comes out of
this program! This internship will also help me complete Slippery Rock’s requirements for their
graduation requirements. While I was at the Rock I found my passion, working with individuals
with disabilities. I found this passion through the great help of a non-profit organization Envision
Blind Sports. Envision is a non-profit that aims to give anyone with any type of vision level a
chance to experience sport and exercise. They have a motto that I live by: “Fear Less, Do
More!”. I volunteered for the organization throughout my college career and found all types of
occupations that I could aim for in the future to help kids with vision impairments. I ended up
choosing to pursue being an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. I have been accepted into
graduate schools for their O&M programs, but I still have not decided where to continue my
education.
I personally love to be outside playing sports or any type of outdoor activity. Over the past few
years I have indulged in playing Disc Golf, a rapidly growing sport. Watching sports is also a
great hobby I take part in as I am a passionate Philly sports fan. I enjoy running and hiking, so I
cannot wait to be doing that in the beautiful areas of Breckenridge Colorado.
I feel like I have a much different background when it comes to individuals that work in the
disabled field. My education was all about how exercise affects the body and what can be done
to prevent diseases and injury. There was a saying that we students joked about but was really a
true statement, “Exercise is Medicine”. That idea is another reason why I wanted to be a part of
the BOEC intern crew. I know what simple forms of exercise can really do for the human body
and the populations that we will work with simply don’t get enough chances to do so. I want to
help as many people as possible this summer while making lifelong friends.
