Rin McElderry
Summer Intern
Hi! I’m Rin (they/them/he). I grew up in Oregon in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. In my little wind and water obsessed town, there are endless options to get outside. I grew up hiking, backpacking, camping, skiing, playing on the river, and playing team sports. I went to college at Northeastern University in Boston where I earned a degree in bioengineering and I am currently applying to graduate programs in prosthetics and orthotics as well as occupational therapy. I spent my spare time planning and leading trips with my outing club based out of our little yurt in the White Mountains. Since graduating in 2022, I have been exploring different jobs including guiding bike tours, teaching skiing, coaching water polo, and working at a distillery making craft spirits. In my spare time, I can be found paddling outrigger canoes, playing and writing music, sewing my own clothes, moseying through wildflowers and waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge, and volunteering with local recreational therapy programs. I am very passionate about outdoor accessibility and fostering diversity in the outdoors, and I am so stoked to be spending the summer at the BOEC!
