SUMMARY:Heroic Families Ruby/Horsethief River Trip
DESCRIPTION:Dates: July 25-30\, 2026 \nWho: Veterans and their family members only. Coed. \nCost: Free (*Excluding travel expenses) \nAvailability is limited. \nPROGRAM FLYER \n\nDetails \n\nJoin a classic western river trip along the Colorado River in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah. Flowing through stunning canyon country\, this trip offers a mix of calm water and exciting whitewater. This remote adventure is perfect for a digital detox\, with no cell service along the route. \nThe trip has two parts. First\, enjoy a 25-mile paddle through Ruby and Horsethief Canyons in canoes\, inflatable kayaks\, or paddleboards\, with opportunities for wildlife viewing and short hikes. Support rafts will carry gear and are available for those who prefer to ride. The second part is a full day of whitewater rafting through Westwater Canyon\, featuring 17 miles and 11 Class III+ to IV rapids. Participants must be at least 10 years old for this section. \nThis multi-day experience offers a chance to reconnect\, build skills\, strengthen relationships\, and unwind in a beautiful wilderness setting. The trip is designed to be inclusive for veterans with mobility restrictions\, and family members are encouraged to join as part of the shared experience. \n\n\nEligible Participants \nThe BOEC extends a special invitation exclusively to military veterans and their families.  This river trip is designed to accommodate veterans who have sustained a moderate to significant injury.  Injuries may include but are not limited to brain injuries\, PTSD\, and/or amputees.  Due to the social aspect of outdoor adventures and camping\, participants must be ready to enjoy the company of other people. \n\nContact caleigh@boec.org for more information!

Scholarships may be available. \nAvailability is limited. \nPROGRAM FLYER \n\nDetails \nCamp Little Tree is a camp for children 8 to 11 years of age with developmental and learning disabilities. This overnight program is designed to meet the unique needs of these children and facilitates peer interaction with 24/7 support from trained BOEC staff\, along with providing safe and fun activities outdoors. Adapting these traditional camp activities fosters success and a sense of achievement in a mountain camp setting. \nFocus is placed on developing independence\, competence\, social skills and self esteem. Campers assist in cooking and cabin clean-up along with peers and adults. Children participate daily in climbing\, paddleboarding\, ropes course and outdoor education. Your child will receive support for their sensory differences while engaging in community-based activities such as field games\, crafts\, journal writing\, and fishing. Involvement in these programs encourages motor skills\, coordination\, motor planning and self confidence. \n\nEligible Participants \nThe Camp Little Tree program is intended for children 8-11 years of age with sensory integration difficulties. Scholarships may be available. \nAvailability is limited. \nPROGRAM FLYER \n\nDetails \nTake part in a classic western river trip! This trip involves floating down Ruby and Horsethief Canyons of the Colorado River in canoes\, inflatable kayaks\, and paddleboards.  During this trip students will be involved in various aspects of camp craft including cooking\, cleaning\, setting up their tent\, and learning how to navigate the water in either a canoe or inflatable kayak. BOEC staff will be there to assist individuals through all aspects of the experience. The Colorado River is in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah. This section includes 25 miles of scenic views\, wildlife viewing\, and opportunities for short hikes while paddling down river. This is a remote area where there will be no cell phone service. \n\nEligible Participants \nThis program is designed to accommodate those ages 16-21 who are ready for a true backcountry wilderness adventure. Activities include camping\, cooking\, river travel\, and spending full days outside. Individuals must meet all our Enrollment Guidelines to attend. DESCRIPTION:Dates: June 21-25\, 2026 \nWho: Ages 12-16 with developmental and learning disabilities. Coed. \nCost: $1\,065 per person. Scholarships may be available. \nAvailability is limited. \nPROGRAM FLYER \n\nDetails \nThis outdoor adventure focused trip starts and finishes at the BOEC’s Wilderness campus in Breckenridge\, CO. We will be onsite the first and last night of camp but in the middle we will travel to the Buena Vista area to set up a base camp.  This course is packed with high adventure activities ranging from ropes course\, rock climbing\, hiking\, rafting\, and camping.  Throughout the course students will be involved in all aspects of camp craft including cooking\, cleaning and camp set-up.  Through outdoor activities students will have the opportunity to develop social skills\, teamwork traits and leadership qualities that will transfer into everyday life. \n\nEligible Participants \nOpen registration is for youth ages 12–16 diagnosed with developmental and learning disabilities.  BOEC requires that all students be fully independent with self-care tasks\, or be prepared to bring a “buddy” to camp.  Due to the social aspect of outdoor adventures and camping\, participants must be ready to enjoy the company of other people. \n\nTransportation \nFamilies are responsible for transportation to and from Denver and the Griffith Lodge in Breckenridge. \n\nContact claire@boec.org for more information.

Scholarships may be available. \nAvailability is limited. \nRegistration: REGISTER HERE  \n\nDetails \nThis Challenge by Choice Adventure Retreat\, run in partnership with the Brain Injury Association of Colorado\, features six days of outdoor adventure for survivors of an injury to the brain. Come stay in our accessible lodge and enjoy activities such as accessible ropes course\, adaptive cycling\, white water rafting\, fishing\, hiking\, rock-climbing\, and even a wild dance party! This retreat is custom designed for adults\, aged 17 and above and is staffed by volunteers\, a registered nurse\, and BOEC staff\, instructors\, and interns. Coed. \nCost: Free (*Excluding travel expenses) \nAvailability is limited. \nPROGRAM FLYER \n\nDetails \nBOEC is offering a unique overnight river trip on the San Juan River in southeastern Utah\, winding through stunning desert canyon country. This section of river features mild to moderate whitewater\, making it well-suited for veterans with significant injuries while still offering an engaging and rewarding experience. \nParticipants will enjoy sandy beaches and campsites\, ancient rock art\, and breathtaking scenery throughout the journey. Our staff are highly trained in working with a wide range of disabilities and bring deep expertise in river safety\, remote environments\, and creating meaningful\, empowering experiences for both youth and adults. \nThe trip follows a classic western river expedition format. Traveling by raft allows access to a true wilderness setting while accommodating participants with mobility limitations. An educational component will enrich the experience\, offering insight into the prehistoric cultures of the Four Corners region. \nThis multi-day river trip provides an ideal environment for military veterans to reconnect\, learn new skills\, build camaraderie\, and enjoy time together. Removed from the distractions of daily life\, participants can relax\, gain fresh perspective\, and rediscover their strength and resilience while journeying down the beautiful San Juan River. \n\nEligible Participants \nThe BOEC extends a special invitation to guest/invitees of military veterans. The program is designed to accommodate veterans who have sustained a moderate to significant injury. Injuries may include\, but are not limited to\, brain injuries\, PTSD\, and/or amputees. DESCRIPTION:Kick off  our 50th anniversary celebration at Wake Up Breck\, on Thursday\, November 6th!\nWake Up Breck is an annual community tradition in celebration of Breckenridge’s opening day. This year\, Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center is honored to be chosen as the beneficiary of this event and invites the community to come together to kick off our 50th year and the start of the winter season. \nOn Thursday\, join BOEC\, Breckenridge Ski Resort and the Town of Breckenridge at participating coffee shops across Town to collect a FREE commemorative coffee mug and a free cup of coffee. Thursday’s event begins at 7 a.m. and lasts until all mugs run out. Mugs typically run out within the hour\, so guests are encouraged to arrive early and mugs are limited to one per person. \nBreckenridge Ski Resort will also match all donations collected during Wake Up Breck to further support our mission. QR Codes for donations will be displayed in coffee shops during Wake Up Breck but you call also donate now at boec.org/givefifty. \nParticipating coffee shops for this year’s Wake Up Breck event include – Breckenridge Coffee House\, Clint’s Bakery & Coffee House\, Coffee Depot at Main Street Station\, Cool River Cafe\, The Crown\, Daylight Donuts\, Mountain View Coffee\, Starbucks\, Unravel Coffee at Gravity Haus\, and Ullr Café at the base of Peak 8. \nSign up to receive updates about our 50th anniversary events:

These lessons adapt to suit the abilities of each participant seeking to explore nearby trails and experience the thrill of biking in the mountains. You are welcome to bring a friend\, family member\, or care attendant\, if needed.\n\n\n\nWhere: Various locations around Summit County\, Colorado\n\n\n\nCost: Cycling days are open enrollment with a fee of $65 for afull day group ride and rental.
