Individuals must meet all our enrollment guidelines to attend.  Friends\, family members and care attendants are welcome to join if assistance is needed. \nWhat:  A classic western river trip. This trip involves floating down Ruby and Horse Thief Canyons of the Colorado River in canoes\, inflatable kayaks and paddleboards.  During this trip students will be involved in various aspects of camp craft including cooking\, cleaning\, setting up their tent and learning how to navigate the water in either a canoe or inflatable kayak. BOEC staff will be there to assist individuals through all aspects of the experience. \nWhere:  The Colorado River in southwestern Colorado and Southeastern Utah. This section includes 25 miles of scenic views\, wildlife viewing\, and opportunities for short hikes while paddling down river. This is a remote area where there will be no cell phone service.

DESCRIPTION:Download CamPossible Flyer. \nOverview \nCamPossible is an overnight camp for kids with cerebral palsy (CP) ages 8-12. This 3-day camp is designed to meet the unique needs of these children and will adapt activities to foster success and a sense of achievement while camping with peers in a mountain setting. \nThe camp will focus on promoting independence\, confidence\, social skills\, and self-esteem. Children will live\, work\, and play in a “family” group of 6-8 campers\, 2-3 outdoor educators from Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center\, and 2-3 specialized therapists (occupational therapist\, physical therapist\, or speech therapist) from Children’s Hospital Colorado. Campers will assist in cooking and cabin clean-up along with peers and adults and will participate in a variety of activities such as climbing\, canoeing\, ropes courses\, and outdoor education. Other activities include crafts and group games. Involvement in these programs promotes motor skills\, coordination\, problem-solving\, and self-confidence. \n\nEligible Participants \nThe CamPossible program is intended for children 8-14 years of age with cerebral palsy who are independently mobile with or without the use of adaptive equipment including walkers and crutches. In addition\, the following criteria for participation have been established: \n\nDoes not have significant cognitive or language limitations\nMust be able to use a toilet with minimal assistance from an adult\nMust be able to follow instructions and comply with adult requests\nMust be able to remain in a group of up to 13 people without constant on-on-one attention\nMay not have extreme emotional an/or psychological distress\n\n\nTransportation \nFamilies are responsible for transportation to and from Denver and the Griffith Lodge in Breckenridge. \n\nApplication Process \nTo express interest or questions\, please contact Shanna Musick\, PT at shanna.musick@childrenscolorado.org or 720-478-2329. DESCRIPTION:Download Camp Little Tree Flyer. \nOverview \nCamp Little Tree\, a program of Children’s Hospital Colorado and hosted by the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC)\, is a special camp for children 9 to 11 years of age with developmental disabilities\, learning disabilities and sensory integration (SI) impairments. The program is designed to meet the unique needs of these children and facilitates peer interaction with therapeutic support in camp activities. Occupational Therapy (OT) principles are used to provide sensory processing\, sensory-motor\, social and self-care support. Adapting these traditional camp activities fosters success and a sense of achievement in a mountain camp setting. \nFocus is placed on developing independence\, competence\, social skills and self esteem. Children live\, work and play\nin a “family” group of 8-10 campers\, 2-3 outdoor educators from the BOEC\, and 2-3 specialized OTs from Children’s Hospital. Campers assist in cooking and cabin clean-up along with peers and adults. Children participate daily in climbing\, canoeing\, ropes course and outdoor education. Your child will receive support for their sensory differences while engaging in community-based activities such as field games\, crafts\, journal writing\, and fishing. Involvement in these programs encourages motor skills\, coordination\, motor planning and self confidence. \n\nEligible Participants \nThe Camp Little Tree program is intended for children 9-11 years of age with sensory integration difficulties.
