DESCRIPTION:Dates: June 11-14\, 2023\nWho: Ages 8-18 who have sustained an injury to the brain\nMore information: RehabOutdoorPrograms@childrenscolorado.org \n\nCamp Zenith\, a program of Children’s Hospital Colorado and hosted by Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC)\, is a four-day overnight camp for youth\, ages 8-18\, who have sustained an injury to the brain. Campers will be involved in a variety of activities throughout the week\, which may include hiking\, team/friendship building exercises\, canoeing\, fishing\, climbing\, high-ropes course\, crafts\, and much more! In the evenings\, campers participate in activities such as taking in the music of the Breckenridge Music Festival orchestra\, movie nights\, group games and a modified campfire. BOEC wilderness educators take the lead in planning the menu\, setting up gear and equipment\, and facilitating all activities with support from the staff from the Rehabilitation Department at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Together\, all staff members work together to provide the needed structure and stability for guaranteed fun and success of all campers! Values of acceptance\, honesty\, self-esteem and teamwork are encouraged throughout all camp experiences. Campers are guided in setting their own goals and achieving them to the best of their abilities. Specialized staff from Children’s Hospital Colorado (occupational therapists\, physical therapists\, speech therapists or recreational therapists) support the campers by helping children as needed to promote fun and adventure in the outdoors! \n\nEligible Participants \nThe Camp Zenith summer program is intended for children 8 to 18 years of age who have sustained injuries to the brain. As much as possible\, campers are grouped with abilities and camp experience in mind. \nCampers should be able to tolerate the social stimulation that comes with active involvement in group living and activities during their stay at camp. Behavior that repeatedly disrupts the group process or puts the camper or others in the group at risk cannot be tolerated. \nAdditionally\, campers must be ambulatory and able to manage bladder and bowels with minimum assistance. \n\nTransportation \nFamilies are responsible for transportation to and from Denver and the Griffith Lodge in Breckenridge. \n\nApplication Process \nPlease visit https://redcap.childrenscolorado.org/surveys/?s=JKWDYE8AFN to fill out the online application as well as any attachments required in the application. Applications are due by June 10\, 2023.  \nAll applicants will be screened for appropriateness and must meet all of the requirements for involvement. Values of acceptance\, honesty\, self-esteem and teamwork are encouraged throughout all camp experiences. Campers are guided in setting their own goals and achieving them to the best of their abilities. \nBOEC wilderness educators take the lead in planning the menu\, setting up gear and equipment\, and facilitating the ropes course\, canoeing\, hiking\, climbing\, and all activities while the participants are at camp. Staff from Children’s Hospital Colorado support the campers by helping children as needed to promote fun and adventure in the outdoors! Campers will be involved in a variety of activities throughout the week\, which may include; hiking\, team/friendship building exercises\, canoeing\, fishing\, climbing\, and much more! \nAs in the prior years\, Camp Zenith has become an opportunity for many children with brain injuries to try new things in a safe environment\, meet new friends and excel at activities they would not otherwise be exposed to secondary to their physical\, cognitive\, or social demands. Overall\, the camp is a FUN experience and a week that children and staff look forward to each year. We strive to provide enough activity to engage the children all day long\, while also supporting their need for quiet time or naps depending on each child’s needs. \n\nEligible Participants \nThe Camp Zenith summer program is intended for children 8 to 18 years of age who have sustained injuries to the brain. DESCRIPTION:Download Camp Little Tree Flyer. \nOverview \nCamp Little Tree\, a program of Children’s Hospital Colorado and hosted by the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC)\, is a special camp for children 9 to 11 years of age with developmental disabilities\, learning disabilities and sensory integration (SI) impairments. The program is designed to meet the unique needs of these children and facilitates peer interaction with therapeutic support in camp activities. Occupational Therapy (OT) principles are used to provide sensory processing\, sensory-motor\, social and self-care support. Adapting these traditional camp activities fosters success and a sense of achievement in a mountain camp setting. \nFocus is placed on developing independence\, competence\, social skills and self esteem. Children live\, work and play\nin a “family” group of 8-10 campers\, 2-3 outdoor educators from the BOEC\, and 2-3 specialized OTs from Children’s Hospital. Campers assist in cooking and cabin clean-up along with peers and adults. Children participate daily in climbing\, canoeing\, ropes course and outdoor education. Your child will receive support for their sensory differences while engaging in community-based activities such as field games\, crafts\, journal writing\, and fishing. Involvement in these programs encourages motor skills\, coordination\, motor planning and self confidence. \n\nEligible Participants \nThe Camp Little Tree program is intended for children 9-11 years of age with sensory integration difficulties. In addition\, the following criteria for participation have been established: \n\nMust be fully independent with all toileting skills\nMust be able to follow instructions and comply with adult requests\nMust be able to remain with a group of up to 13 people without direct one-on-one attention\nMust not have extreme emotional and/or psychological distress\nMust have therapist’s recommendation for involvement in the camp\n\n\nTransportation \nFamilies are responsible for transportation to and from Denver and the Griffith Lodge in Breckenridge. \n\nApplication Process \nPlease visit https://redcap.childrenscolorado.org/surveys/?s=9YXDXFHYMA to fill out the online application as well as any attachments required in the application.
